- L-Palmitoylcarnitine chloride is a long-chain acylcarnitine and fatty acid metabolite, which accumulates in the sarcolemma during ischemia and disrupts the membrane lipid environment. It inhibits KATP channel activity by interacting with Kir6.2 without affecting single-channel conductance, and simultaneously enhances the ATP sensitivity of the channel (IC50 decreased from 62 to 30 µM). The modulation of the membrane lipid environment caused by it mainly alters KATP channel function through interaction with the endogenous PI cascade, especially PIP2.
